Exclusive presentations and inspiring displays – the main focus of the item TechDay at our new site in Ahrensburg near Hamburg was on new products and innovations.
To celebrate the opening of our new, state-of-the-art site in Ahrensburg, we opened our doors to large numbers of visitors. By relocating from Siek, we are expanding our production capacity to meet our customers’ needs even more effectively. What’s more, we are creating an ideal working environment for our staff. With an impressive usable area of 3800 square metres in the main building, 450 square metres in the adjacent building and a plot measuring 16,000 square metres in total, this new site offers more room for growth, innovation and efficiency.
A fresh start – from Siek to Ahrensburg
The outstanding infrastructure in and around Ahrensburg was one of the key factors in the decision to relocate. The proximity of the new site to the old one in Siek – only ten minutes away – and the ideal transport links, which include two motorway junctions, offer many advantages for customers, staff and suppliers alike. State-of-the-art technologies and innovative approaches give rise to more efficient production and logistics processes. Besides economic factors and the possibility of expansion, we also attach great importance to providing an optimum working environment. “Our staff form the beating heart of our company. Only by providing a working environment that is as pleasant as it is productive can we achieve our goals and ensure high levels of satisfaction on a sustainable basis,” says Frank Hansen, who is in charge of the item site in Ahrensburg.
Our staff form the beating heart of our company.
The team in Ahrensburg is continually being increased in size in order to meet growing requirements. The working conditions reflect the very latest state of the art, ensuring both safety and efficiency in all areas. The highly effective warehousing logistics concepts at the new site particularly deserve a special mention. Cutting-edge vertical storage towers mean that full use can be made of the available capacity. What’s more, activities that generate value can be implemented efficiently, thanks to short routes and optimised processes. The site in Ahrensburg has been optimised in relation to climate protection, too. A photovoltaic system on the roof, intelligent building automation with a weather station, and energy-saving underfloor heating all help reduce energy consumption. By planting the outdoor areas, item is also showing its commitment to environmental protection and the sustainable use of natural resources.

Grand opening with a TechDay
On 19 September, we celebrated our relocation with a grand opening event in the form of a TechDay. At this event, the main focus was on this year’s new products. Our visitors were able to examine our latest developments in the areas of mobile and stationary robotics, smart signalling systems and our new Suspended Conveyor System. What’s more, interactive exhibits gave our guests the opportunity to try out products directly and talk to our experts on site.

Some 1000 guests attended the event, including Chamber of Industry and Commerce representatives, management representatives, shareholders and international partners of item. “The aim of the TechDay was not only to showcase our new site, but also to offer customers genuine added value and give them the chance to experience the world of the item product range for themselves. This worked brilliantly in the TechDay setting. Events like this are a great opportunity for us to strengthen our relationships further – and not just at a technical level,” Hansen explains.

Workshops, knowledge and a glimpse into the future – expanding horizons with item
The exhibition was accompanied by a range of presentations and workshops that explored various topics – production, robotics and conveying technology – in greater depth. Our product developers answered lots of questions and explained the latest technologies. There was particularly keen interest in mobile and stationary robotics, smart signalling and lean production, with all these topics generating a lot of discussion due to their potential for innovation.

Focusing on the future – new ways and new opportunities
“In line with our motto ‘Your ideas are worth it’, we see events such as our TechDay as a perfect opportunity to hold in-depth, in-person discussions with our customers,” Hansen explains. “This dialogue is very valuable and important, because it helps us identify the needs of the market and use this information to press ahead with future developments,” he continues. We firmly believe that this combination of innovation, sustainability and proximity to our customers is the key to our future success, too. The new site and its successful grand opening mark another important milestone in the development of our company.
