The 12 months of 2023 have given us 40 articles, and lots and lots of exciting information. Whether you want to revisit a post or check for anything you might have missed, come with us on a journey through the highlights of the year on our blog.
2023 was packed full of inspirational examples of cobot applications. Back in January, the “INNA” robot cell made a spectacular impression. Its integrated Doosan robot takes over welding tasks, thus easing the workload of its human colleagues, while its machine cabin based on Line XMS delivers safety and flexibility. The robominds robot cell for use in laboratories also includes a machine cabin. Two cobots identify and sort sensitive lab samples with the help of highly developed AI. Both robot cells offer a direct response to the skills shortage, and provide an example of automation for the future of industry. Any company that wants to try out cobots first can find perfect conditions for this in the Mehnert Lab, where numerous robot cells are available in a 600-square-meter space.
Automating challenging tasks using linear technology
Two posts focused on the versatility of our linear system. The practical service offered by the Valiomat automatic safe deposit box system from MS Protect is particularly exciting. Customers can access their safe deposit boxes 24/7. Thanks to an item Linear Unit, the track-guided storage and retrieval vehicle can carry out highly dynamic movements. It brings valuables from a high-bay storage system to the output station, where they can be received by the owner. Precision is also vital when it comes to studying art. In the State Academy of Art and Design (ABK) in Stuttgart, a positioning unit is used to put artworks in place with the utmost precision for X-ray examinations. The unit is a complete solution comprising linear unit, motor, gearbox and controller.
Around the world – and even into space – with the item blog
The universal potential applications for our modular system were a recurring theme throughout the year. One topic took us to Senegal. That is where students from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) tested the prototype of an innovative solar panel cleaning system, with item profiles used to build the frame. In principle, Senegal is perfect for solar energy, but storms in the Sahara bring large volumes of sand and dust into the country. Solutions are therefore needed to clean this off the solar panels and thus prevent significant drops in performance.
Airbus used a solution based on our Stairway/Platform System for various tests.
Another blog post took us into space. In an international project, Airbus Defence and Space sent the JUICE (Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer) space probe on a voyage of discovery. Launched on 14 April 2023, the mission aims to explore Ganymede, Europa and Callisto, three of the moons of Jupiter. We are delighted to have played a part in this project – Airbus used a solution based on our Stairway/Platform System for various tests that were carried out in Toulouse. This substructure made it possible to provide optimum support for the probe measuring arm that was being tested.
New products for even greater flexibility
Every year, we launch new products in spring and autumn. This year’s highlights include ESD-safe conveyor belts, new systems for goods transport and material supply, and lots of flexible options for LED signalling. Are you looking to transport cable harnesses or mats? Then the item Suspended Conveyor System is the perfect solution for you. It transports materials in a space-saving, efficient way – either hanging up or in bags. With the item railing system, you can create reliable side guides for conveyor sections. Every option is therefore open to you for the safe guidance of transported goods. Our LED Strips and Indicator Lights offer real potential for visualising operating statuses. Thanks to IO-Link in numerous LED solutions, it is particularly easy to create customised solutions.
Experience the world of item – in Solingen and online
We are always breaking new ground when it comes to knowledge transfer. The first item TechDay was held in April. This new event format made it possible for customers to experience our entire portfolio live in a single location. Our experts were on hand to enter into inspiring discussions. After the première at the European headquarters of item in Solingen, the sites in Hanover and Nossen also opened their doors. Our interactive online tour offers a comprehensive insight into the world of item. Take an informative and entertaining journey through the virtual factory and learn about the almost limitless opportunities our modular principle offers.
We hope that the item blog has entertained and inspired you again this year, as well as keeping you informed. Now all that is left is to wish you a merry Christmas and a wonderful start to 2024! We are taking a festive break, but we’ll be back on 10 January 2024.
